A true icon is defined not only by the impact that it makes at the moment of its revealing, but the lasting relevance it enjoys more than half a century later. In the 90’s, Il Gergo presented the Director, the historical Derby model born in the 8th century between Ireland and Scotland known as Blücher. The Derby are named after the Prussian general Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher, took it upon himself to have the boots redesigned so his men could have a more comfortable pair of boots that also enabled them to ready themselves for battle in shorter time. The Spernanzoni company decided to re-propose the authentic Derby model leaving all style characteristics that have made this creation during two centuries. The Director is an exquisite exemplar of the clean and classic whole cut Derby, which is made of a single piece of leather that is completely free of marks and flaws. Though originally designed for sportier purposes, the Derby has become a versatile lace-up that is ideal for just about any occasion. The style has a smooth upper, no toecap or stitching, except for on the eyelet facings, which feature hand-stitches applied by specialised craftsmen and the shoe’s details are all written by hand on the inside of the upper in a special calligraphy. The shoe, which was constructed with the world-renowned Goodyear method, boasts a thick sole whose storm welt helps keep water out. THE MODEL INFLUENCED BY ART DECO STYLE OF TWENTY YEARS AND WORN BY FRED ASTAIRE EDORARDO VIII, PRINCE OF WALES.

Supervisor Il Gergo is the timeless style of the Brogue shoe with rounded tip. A native of Scotland and Ireland ‘800, the model was made in robust leather features such broguing decorative holes, originally created to drain water entering the shoe through the wetlands. It was later adopted by the nobles, but worn only in rural areas and for sports activities. He was so successful that it was later developed version golf two-tone and then with soft spikes. Which has become a real authentic icon of the time, Edward VIII, Prince of Wales decided to break the rules of the dress code that included, for men, just plain shoes. The influence of the prince and his avant-garde vision of fashion was such that a real trend across Europe during the twenties. The model was further influenced by the Art Deco style of the beginning century and became the favorite shoe of trendsetters like Fred Astaire. THE FAMOUS MODEL THAT HAS MADE THE FAMOUS MEN LACE UP SHOES.

In 1997 Il Gergo presented President, the famous Oxford model characterized by shoelace eyelets tabs that are attached under the vamp, a feature termed "closed lacing". It appears first in Scotland and Ireland in the seventeenth century, as evolution of Oxonian, short boots with side openings, in vogue in 1800. Its name comes from the popularity gained at Oxford University, but also takes the name of Bal or Balmorals, given by the castle that the English queen had in Scotland. In the twentieth century, the Oxford were adopted as part of the style "Teddy Bears '40s trying to relive the era of the early Edwardian period 1900. In the 1950, it was created a very popular variant used not only by men but also women and children, known as Saddle shoe. As one of Il Gergo top styles, the President stands out for its sleek, elegant upper with double stitching on the toecap and quarter lining as well as for its practicality. We choose the leather meticulously and apply waxes by hand to gradually create subtle nuances that enhance the original beauty of the material. A special foam is inserted between the leather sock and insole for added comfort. The shoe is Goodyear constructed and its leather sole features the Il Gergo logo.
